May 9-18, 2008 THE GOURMET FESTIVAL - RESTAURANT WEEK
Restaurant Week is one of the corner-stones of the Cape Gourmet Festival, and provides locals and visitors access to the crème de la crème of South Africa’s restaurants. Restaurants spanning six categories; including Contemporary, Foreign and Exotic, Gourmet and Fine Dining, New, Seafood, South African and African are chosen to reflect the true global nature of South Africa’s eating culture.
Participating restaurants are asked to serve a specially designed two-course gourmet lunch, for a set price of R75/ R95 or a three-course gourmet dinner for R110/ R165; all menus including a glass of carefully selected wine. The menus are specially designed to reflect the culture and style of each restaurant.
Locals, ever adventurous in their choice of experience, have the opportunity to enjoy South Africa’s varied culture and cuisine. “Restaurant Week” is promoted throughout shopping centres, press, promotions and through the Festival Guide distributed nationally which features all the restaurants and carries all the sponsors’ logos.
Restaurant Week: an Exceptional Eating Experience not to be missed!
The Festival de Cannes is the most important film event in the world, with more than 4,000 journalists among the 30,000 accreditees, representing the entire spectrum of the motion-picture industry.
The Festival de Cannes reflects the dual nature of cinema at the crossroads of art and industry, and favours both cinema revelations and professional encounters. For if the Festival principally evokes the surprise of the Selection and the expectation of the final awards, it is equally the privileged rendezvous of all motion-picture industry professionals who attend its Marché du Film.
The Festival, moreover, develops actions in support of cinematic creation throughout the world. Twenty years after having created the Caméra d'Or, the prize awarded to the best first film, all selections combined, the Festival created in 1998 the Cinéfondation to accompany young filmmakers along the various stages of their creative careers, from their projects to the making of their films.
The role of the Festival de Cannes has thus grown rich over the course of the years to the rhythm of the evolution of cinema itself: selecting and promoting films and artists, welcoming professionals, implementing new sets of dynamics in support of creation... in a word, serving the cinema in all its dimensions.
The Monaco Grand Prix (Grand Prix de Monaco) is a Formula One race held each year on the Circuit de Monaco. Run since 1929, it is widely considered to be one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world alongside the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (with which it forms the Triple Crown of Motorsport). The history, spectacle and glamour result in the race being considered "the jewel of the Formula One crown".
The first race in 1929, was organised by Anthony Noghès under the auspices of the "Automobile Club de Monaco", and was won by William Grover-Williams driving a Bugatti. The event was part of the pre-Second World War European Championship and was included in the first Formula One World Championship in 1950. The race is held on a narrow course laid out in the streets of Monaco, with many elevation changes and tight corners, making it one of the most demanding tracks in Formula One. In spite of the relatively low average speeds, it is a dangerous place to race.
Tournoi de Roland-Garros, commonly known as the French Open, is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks between mid-May and early June in Paris, France, at the Stade de Roland Garros. It is the second of the Grand Slam tournaments on the annual tennis calendar and the premier clay court tennis tournament in the world.
It is one of the most prestigious events in tennis and it benefits of the widest worldwide broadcasting and audience of all events in this sport]. Because of the slow playing surface and the five-set men's singles matches without a tiebreak in the final set, the event is considered to be the most physically demanding tennis tournament in the world.
